How to measure your carpet correctly?
To take the correct carpet measurements, you can follow these steps:
1. Measure the Room Area
- Determine the dimensions of the room where you want to place the rug. This will ensure the rug fits the layout.
2. Consider the placement of furniture.
- In the living room: The carpet usually goes somewhat under the furniture. The front legs of the sofas may be on the carpet, while the back legs may remain outside.
- In the dining room: The rug should be wide enough to cover the entire table and chairs. Even when the chairs are pulled out, they should remain on the rug.
- In the bedroom: The rug should extend under the bed, leaving walking space on both sides.
3. Don't forget to leave a space.
- Leaving a gap around the carpet, especially between the walls and the carpet, creates a more balanced look. This gap is typically around 20-50 cm.
4. Consider Standard Carpet Sizes.
- Small rugs: 80x150 cm, 120x180 cm
- Medium-sized rugs: 160x230 cm
- Large rugs: 200x300 cm
5. Note the Measurements and Make a Plan
- After taking your measurements, you can create a plan and visualize how the rug will fit in the room.
6. Use masking tape for the test.
- Mark the area where the rug will cover using masking tape to ensure you have the correct measurements.
7. Consider the intended use of the carpet.
- Decide whether you want a decorative accent rug or one that will completely cover the space.
These methods will help you choose the right size rug and bring aesthetic balance to your room.
